How to care for and clean our products.

Coloured Metals

For coloured items that are made of anodized aluminium, you can keep these clean by washing in warm water with a little washing up soap. Please keep in mind that the coloured coating on these products only coats the outer layers of the metal. Therefore, over time the colour may chip off in certain areas, especially if the item constantly knocks against another metal item. This is normal and is not a manufacturing default.

Solid Stainless Steel, Solid Brass and Solid Copper.

These metals will tarnish (although stainless steel has a much slower rate of tarnishing). This is normal.

To clean your metal product, wash in warm, soapy water and dry with a soft, lint free cloth. For metal that does not come into contact with skin or pets, then you can use a product such as Brasso to polish your metal, by following the manufacturers instructions. If you wish to use a polishing product to clean metal that will come in contact with skin or pets, then please check with the product manufacturer first that it is safe to do so.

Sterling Silver

Sterling Silver is a relatively soft metal, so it will acquire scratches over time. This is normal.

Due to its composition (92.5% silver plus alloys to strengthen it), silver will naturally tarnish after a period of time. You may find if more difficult to clean the areas of small details of the engraving itsel, so the engraved area may tarnish faster than the remaining surface of the metal. This is also normal and some prefer this appearance as it adds a deeper contrast colour between the engraving and the remaining surface of the piece.

To slow the process of tarnishing and to take the best care of your Sterling Silver piece;

  • Avoid direct contact with any lotions, nail polish remover, perfumes, deodorants or hairsprays. If you use any of these products, ensure they are completely dry before you put on your jewellery.
  • Keep your jewellery away from and remove jewellery before using any chemicals such as bleach or any other household cleaning products.
  • Remove your jewellery whilst swimming, showering or bathing.
  • Dry your jewellery thoroughly after contact with water/moisture.
  • We recommend that you remove jewellery before doing any practical chores such as gardening.
  • It is best to your wear your jewellery often but when storing your sterling silver jewellery, store in an airtight and acid free jewellery box and with anti-tarnish strips if you have them. Store in a cool, dry place in your home.

Clean your sterling silver jewellery regularly;

  • Wash in a weak solution of dishwasher liquid and warm water to remove any surface dirt and to brighten any gemstones. You can use a very soft toothbrush if you wish to clean around any stone settings. Dry thoroughly with a soft, lint free cloth.
  • Use a silver cleaning cloth impregnated with anti-tarnish polish.
